General manager Craig MacTavish confirmed
#1
Ottawa Senators 5 Winnipeg Jets 3 (Jets 30-28-7, Home 15-13-5) – The five goals against are the most the Jets have surrendered since the arrival of Paul Maurice. Vans Shoes Outlet . The Jets also gave up two goals while shorthanded, the first time they have given up two since December 23 in Edmonton, 26 games ago. It was also the seventh game this season where the Jets have scored two power play goals in a game. The Jets failed to convert on a five-on-three and it was Ottawa that opened the scoring with a power play goal from Milan Michalek, a goal that went off Matt Halischuk and just got across the goal line. Brian Little with his 20th of the year tied it, also on a power play. It was his seventh power play goal of the year, and 50th point of the year, one shy of his career high for a single season. Dustin Byfuglien and Andrew Ladd picked up assists. Byfuglien has 21 power play points on the season. But, 38 seconds later Jared Cowan with his fourth of the year regained the lead for Ottawa. Against Los Angeles Thursday the Kings scored 42 seconds after the Jets scored to tie the game. Shots in the first were 13-12 Ottawa. The Jets started the second with some good offensive chances but it was the Sens that scored at 2:01 to make it a 3-1 game. It was another strange goal for Ottawa. On a two-on-one, Mark Stuart dove to break up the play, which he did, but in the process took out Ondrej Pavelec and left the net wide open for Eric Gryba to get his second of the year. Toby Enstrom scored the Jets second power play goal of the afternoon to make it 3-2. For Enstrom his seventh of the year and second on the power play. It came right off a face off win by Evander Kane. Then 38 seconds that turned the game. Kyle Turris scored his 21st at 8:58, Devin Setoguchi went for boarding at 9:20 and Mike Hoffman with a power play goal at 9:36 made it 5-2. It was Hoffmans first NHL goal. Al Montoya came into the game, his first action since the St. Louis game before the Olympic break. Jets had two power plays in the final seven minutes of the second but failed to score. Shots in the second were 14-13 Jets. The third period was all Jets. Byfuglien with his 14th at 2:13 made it a two-goal game. Byfuglien rifled one of the right wing that beat Craig Anderson high. The remainder of the period though belonged to Anderson. The Jets outshot Ottawa 22-7 in the third, but could not get closer than 5-3. Final shots were 49-32. Jets have scored 31 power play goals, 22 at home. For the 10th time this season Jacob Trouba led the Jets in ice time at 24:17, Enstrom led in shots on goal with seven, Byfuglien and Kane had six each. Michael Frolik won 10 of 12 face offs in his second game at centre. Post-game Coach Maurice was positive. "Strange pucks going into the net, especially on their first three. First one is off two of our guys and in, second one off one of our guys and in, third one we take our goalie out. On the game we liked our chances better than theirs. I liked the emotional level we played within the last part of the game. There was no quit, we had more intensity as the game wore on." On the play of Pavelec, "Unfortunate. To be great you need some breaks. Ive got no problem with him." On the power play that went two for seven, "we had 17 power play shots, got two goals. That is what were trying to do. We had two goals. One was to make playoffs, the second to set a foundation for the game we want to play. We are moving in that direction." The Jets are in Colorado Monday (TSN Jets, TSN 1290), before returning home for three more against Vancouver, the New York Rangers and a huge game against the Dallas Stars, the team they are chasing in the West.
